Interested in playing with Hallam Sinfonia?

We currently have vacancies for violins and violas. If you are interested in joining the orchestra on either of these instruments, please email us to discuss.

While we don't currently have vacancies in other sections of the orchestra, we are always keen to hear from good standard players who might be able to join us for individual performances when we need extra players or deputies. To let us know if this is the case, please email us with details of your orchestral experience to date.

If you are interested in joining a group but we don't have any vacancies in your instrument, the Classical Sheffield website includes details of other orchestras or other instrumental ensembles in Sheffield that might be open to new members.

As a guide, we would normally expect members of a string section to be at least a grade 8 or equivalent standard. For wind and brass players, being solo instruments a lot of the time, we expect the standard to be higher than that, and for players to have good levels of orchestra experience.

We typically rehearse on Thursday and Friday evenings for the three weeks leading up to each concert, though this can vary on occasion. Most rehearsals are at High Storrs School in Sheffield.
